Wx is a specialized weather app for Mac OS X that downloads and processes weather information for the United States. Wx displays current conditions, forecasts, warnings, and radar for U.S. locations using high fidelity XML data from the National Weather Service. The app is designed for two specific types of customers: serious weather watchers who want detailed information and facts with no fuss, and casual users who want a fast, clean, and functional weather app.

Wx 6 has been reinvented from the ground up for Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, but the app's new design and features are available on Mac OS X 10.6 too. Wx sets up locations on an embedded map, letting you choose nearby NWS observation sites (over 1700 available), nearby NEXRAD radar sites, and nearby city- and county-based alert zones. The app creates a regional text forecast bulletin, a 7-day summary forecast, and a pro forecast, all customized for the specific latitude and longitude of the location. The pro forecast graphs temperature, dew point, relative humidity, cloud cover, wind speed/direction, gust speed, 12-hour probability of precipitation, 6-hour liquid precipitation amount, and 6-hour snow amount. With their high spatial resolution, the point and pro forecasts are especially useful in coastal and mountainous regions, where typical zone forecasts can be inaccurate.
Wx also lets you bookmark and setup weather maps for quick reference. Choose from over 40 default NWS maps and images, or provide the URL for any map of your choice and load it right in the app! If you have preferred weather providers, you can load your favorite maps and images right in Wx and keep them handy. Other features of Wx include a display of weather conditions in the dock icon, seven day sun and moon phase information, and a high performance multi-threaded radar display with seven types of radar.
Versions
Wx displays extra information when mousing over certain interface elements. In the current conditions pane, mousing over the "i" symbol shows information about the NWS observation site, and gives access to METAR and 3-day history. Mousing over period names in the graphical point forecast brings up sunrise/sunset and moon phase information for the forecast period. Finally, mousing over data points in pro forecast graphs will bring up a popup listing the raw data for each point.
When switching to a different location in the sidebar, clicking inside an alert symbol (if present) will automatically switch that location's display to show active warnings.
If you see errors when looking at radar frames, click the small "i" symbol in the upper right of the frame to view the current operational status of the radar site. You can disable frames within a radar animation by clicking the green dot above the radar slider.
Click the reload button to reload all locations and maps. Option-click the reload button to reload only the active location or map.

Wx 6.0 requires an Intel Mac running OS X 10.6 or 10.7.
